Where the inspection data comes from

Food Establishment Inspection Scores, published by City of Austin, Austin Public Health (Environmental Health Services Division) on the City of Austin open data portal (Public Domain (per the dataset metadata)). 512 reads the full feed, saves a dated copy of each download, and keeps every inspection it has seen — including ones that later drop out of the City's rolling three-year window.

How establishments are reviewed

The City publishes inspections by facility ID. One business can have several IDs over time (for example after a new permit), and several businesses can share one address (food courts, commissaries, stores with separate counters). So 512 never matches records automatically by name or address. Each page is reviewed: the review decides which City records belong on it and records the evidence; anything ambiguous stays unpublished until it can be supported.

Limits

• Coverage is partial: only reviewed establishments are published, and the City feed itself may not include every inspected place.
• Nothing here states whether a business is currently operating.
• The feed has no violation details. See how to read the scores.
